KiiBoom 81 Aluminum QMK Barebones Kit

A new DIY era is coming!

Like many other crafting enthusiasts, our team at KiiBoom is also fond of DIY keyboards. However, it can be a headache when different keyboards adopt different screws to assemble the boards. We wanted a keyboard that can be disassembled and reassembled without other tools so bad that we decided to make one. Thus, we make this one: KiiBoom 81 Aluminum QMK Barebones Kit.

KiiBoom 81 Aluminum QMK Barebones Kit.

Inspired by the mortise and tenon technique of woodworking, we designed the joints of the KiiBoom 81 to be firmly connected at right angles. The mortise and tenon technique has been utilized for thousands of years and is renown for its strength and feasibility. In this way, the keyboard can be disassembled and assembled easily simply by joining the pieces together. This is especially convenient for gasket-mounted keyboards, so you can make any mods to the board quickly, without unscrewing and screwing with specialized screwdrivers.

Aluminum Case in Different Color Themes

Premium aluminum components are for the KiiBoom 81. Cases undergo the CNC process one at a time to ensure precision fitting. The color themes include Volcano Grey, Electro White, Lilac Purple, Silky Pink and Emerald Green. The case is weighted on the back to provide stability and security while typing. Finally, the back of the case features a subtle “KiiBoom” logo.

POM Plate or Aluminum Plate

We have recently acquired (polyoxymethylene) POM plates for gasket-mounted keyboards. POM is extremely strong yet flexible, providing a slightly cushioned typing experience and an incredible typing sound. Despite the high cost of POM plates, we’re pleased to announce their availability for the KiiBoom 81.

The KiiBoom 81 is also available with aluminum plates, which provide the classic typing acoustics and a firm typing feel. It’s a classic solution for those wanting uncompromised stability with each keystroke.

QMK & VIA Supportable

As a DIY keyboard, it is vital that we can make keyboard layouts that fit our own typing habits. As hinted from the title, the KiiBoom81 QMK features just this! Supported by QMK and VIA programming, you can set almost everything in this board, as well as customize the Fn layer if you are not satisfied with the factory settings.

South-facing LEDs and Customizable RGB

We have seen many keyboards that are built with high-class crafting process and friendly functions, but without backlights! It can be such a dealbreaker for many gamers who enjoy the added ambiance of RGB lights. For this reason, we have add LEDs into the KiiBoom 81 QMK. The LEDs on the PCB are south-facing, which means that the switches are installed in a way that does not cause interference with cherry-profile keycaps. You can experience the full glory of RGB lighting effects specifically designed to illuminate towards the user.
